I heard about CrossFit from a colleague. I had gained 20lbs over a year of sedentary lifestyle. I want to keep myself fit and keep up with my friends during hikes. It was whole body soreness when I first started CrossFit. I was feeling pain/soreness in places I didn’t know can get sore. But soreness apart, I was really enjoying it. All the classes were very welcoming and coaches were really patient and correcting my form. What keeps me coming back to CFM is the family and community. It also keeps me energized during the day, gaining new skills, looking forward to beating my old scores, and maintaining the weight even though not really dieting. My biggest accomplishments since joining CFM is getting my double unders, loosing 35lbs with CrossFit and eating healthy, maintaining the body weight for almost a year without effort or diet restriction, and keeping up with friends during hikes.

I was bored with the routine I had at the time and I friend of mine had mentioned CrossFit to me. I looked into it and decided to try it out. About a year before joining CFM, I had hurt my knee. So when it came to lifting weights, especially squatting, it always made me nervous and I never wanted to lift too heavy, for fear of hurting my knee again. When I first did the one rep max on back squatting I did 55 pounds. A little less than a year later, with a lot of convincing from the coaches, I was able to do 155 pounds. After that, I have been more comfortable with pushing my limits. I showed up for my first class and got to watch the previous class workout. They were all really strong and moved so fast and I remember thinking “What did I get myself into?” However, once the class started, that all quickly changed. Everyone in the class was friendly, patient and really encouraging. I never had so much fun working out. What keeps me coming back to CFM is the whole environment. It’s the great people, awesome coaches and the workouts. I always know that I am going to have fun and get a great workout. My biggest accomplishments since joining CrossFit Milpitas is that I definitely feel more comfortable in pushing past my comfort zone. Prior to joining CFM I thought I knew what my physical capabilities were and I would not venture past them. Now I am more willing to test those boundaries and see what I am actually able to do and there have been a few times where I surprised myself.

I was struggling with keeping my gym routine or active lifestyle. One of my coworkers mentioned he was doing CrossFit and recommended it. A little while passed and then my fiance used a GroupOn to try out a box and encouraged me to try it as well. I didn't fully commit to it until we moved and joined CFM. I had a bad mental block for awhile with CrossFit because I have a heart condition that can make it hard to workout. After going to CFM's QuickFit for a few months and finding the right daily routine, my condition has gotten a lot better. Now I have the confidence to really push my physical limits without worrying. It was a bit intimidating at first. There are some strong people at CFM. But the groups are welcoming, and the coaches are great. When I switched from QuickFit and joined the full membership it was amazing how many people noticed and congratulated me. What keeps me coming back to CFM is the environment (people, coaches, music, events...) is something that I always look forward to. My biggest accomplishment since joining CFM is that I feel a lot more comfortable in my body after losing around 40 pounds this year and probably 55 pounds since joining CFM. That’s giving me lots of strength to keep showing up and continue working on my goals.

I first heard about CrossFit Milpitas (CFM) from a friend whom I trained with in Wushu (martial arts). Despite my physical activity, I still felt intimidated by "CrossFit". After reading reviews and talking to other people about their experiences, I finally gave into an intro session with Coach Vito. It turned out to be a fitness regimen that was different, fun, and challenging. Fast forward 8 years later, I am still here and learning constantly! One of the biggest draw about CFM is the community/ camaraderie with other members. Seeing your neighbor sweat, grunt, and laugh with you creates a supportive environment. It's especially rewarding when you achieve a PR (personal record) because of all the energy and motivation everyone gives you. What really makes this "box" or gym unique are the coaches. They create a safe environment both figuratively and literally. They make it okay to scale down a movement so that you do not risk hurting yourself. When movements seem too difficult, they would modify my workout so that I am safe and still get a workout in. They also teach different progressions to help build my technique and strength to eventually master the movement. Coaches at CFM truly care and know your potential. They believe in me, even more than I believe in myself at times. I keep coming to CFM because it has help kept me healthy, mentally and physically. I even worked out throughout my pregnancy up until the week of my delivery (38.5 weeks)- with the approval of my doctor, of course. The coaches were very knowledgable on how to scale my workouts for the different stages of my pregnancy. I truly believe that it's because of CFM, that I had an uncomplicated delivery and a very quick recovery. Above this, when I was ready to come back after having my baby, CFM welcomed me and my babe with open arms. They even have a designated area for kids and dogs to play while the parents workout. This is such a huge benefit because how often can you bring your children and dogs with you to workout?! People at CFM are extremely friendly and supportive of the family environment, children and fur babies alike.

I first heard about CrossFit when my mom started doing it around 2014. A while after she started at the CrossFit, the gym came up with a kids class. My mom told me about it and she forced me to join. At the time, I was 9 years-old. My first WOD wasn't so bad but the day after I was very sore. Soon I was hooked and I thought it was super fun because I met other kids and I was also bored at home so I had something to do during the summer (other than chores...). I like CrossFit because it gives me a variety of movements that I can do that most kids my age can't do. I go back to CFM because I love the people and how they motivate you. It helps you come back again and again to continue your progress. My experience with CrossFit has not only made me more fit but it has helped me gain more confidence with myself and has helped me do things I never thought I could do.

I was at a stage in my life where I was struggling with my weight and after my annual physical, my doctor explained how I was in danger of developing heart problems and diabetes if I continue with my lazy lifestyle. I started to look for gyms around me over yelp, I never actually joined any class other than just reading yelp reviews. I guess I was intimidated and didn't want to come out my comfort zone. Everyday I used to take Milpitas Blvd while going home and saw bunch of people running. This group was very intriguing to me, I saw some people whom I can relate to. I did some research and found out about CFM and CrossFit for the first time. I signed up for QuickFit next week. CrossFit is for everyone, you can be a professional athlete or someone who wants to exercise every day. For me it’s a right mix of cardio, strength and gymnastics and helps me to maintain the calorie deficit. The thing I love most about it is how I feel positive and confident outside the box every day. What motivates me to keep coming back everyday is RESULTS! I see the changes and improvements in me, I am in the best shape of my life. Starting as a fitness newbie was not easy, I was sore all the time, hated to take the stairs after lunge and squat days. But I kept on reminding myself what Coach Vito told me the first day, showing up every day is half the workout. Another important motivation is the camaraderie and support of my fellow box mates. They are awesome and friendly, always giving me tips and cheering me. A simple ‘Good Job Kiran’ feels so great to hear after the WOD.

I first heard about CrossFit from a friend of mine. She was always talking about her workouts, in lingo I didn't understand, and I thought the workouts sounded so crazy and different. She finally convinced me to join her in a class, and I was hooked instantly. I'd never been through anything like that before, but it was such a challenge and that was what got me coming back for more. That was over 5 years ago!! I was and still am drawn to the constant variation and the movements I cannot do. It keeps me motivated day in and day out. I even compete every spring in the CrossFit Open and it's a time of year where I get to test how much stronger I've gotten, and every year I surprise myself in my growth. Not only have I gained more strength than I ever thought possible, I've gained an amazing community of people! The people of CrossFit Milpitas are the reason I show up every morning. I can truly say I consider CrossFit Milpitas my second family. The support I feel daily and the cheers we all offer until that last person completes the WOD is the reason I love this box so much.

I first heard about CrossFit from one of my best friends. I was struggling with maintaining an active life style and they suggested checking it out, I'm glad I did. My biggest challenge I had to overcome with Crossfit was believing in myself. Crossfit does a great job at challenging people mentally and physically. I'm constantly finding new ways to challenge myself for the better (mentally and physically) but ultimately I have to trust myself and my body. I was nervous when I first walked into CFM. However those nerves went away after I met Vito and was welcomed by members during my first class. After my first day I knew this was a place where coaches could help me achieve my goals and I'd make new friends to help me along the way! I keep coming back for the people. Nothing makes me happier after a long day at work than walking into the gym with familiar faces. My biggest accomplishment is learning to trust myself and have patience. Through practice and consistency I finally got my double unders!

So for me, CrossFit has been life changing. It's not because of the intense workouts, but rather so all the people I have met and experiences I've had. Everyone comes into the box to sign up is a different athlete, a different person. For me, I was an ex-competitive gymnast. I was Top 20 in my region and I have tons of medals. Cool right? Most would think so but throughout school when I was young, I was constantly made fun of. I was made fun of for being the shortest and smallest. People would call me "gay" for being a gymnast. That's just the emotional side. Physically, I was born premature by 3 months and was 2 pounds. I had a heart valve problem and almost died. I was the one million dollar baby. Fast forward to my senior year of high school, both my lungs collapsed on separate occasions. I had a spontaneous pneumothorax (basically holes in my lungs). CrossFit to me is a blessing. To be where I am at today is truly amazing! Most of all, I'm blessed and grateful for the community that comes with it. I may say I want to achieve this and that but all in all, i LOVE the community and support it provides. Just remember everyone's struggle is different, some more than others. Embrace everyone and spread the love. We're blessed to be here. Don't let you struggles overcome you, you can overcome them. I did and today I'm doing things I never thought I could do. Be the example.
